Rules for Happiness

March 11, 2013

“Rules for Happiness:
something to do,
someone to love,
something to hope for.”
Immanuel Kant

Happiness is so important in life. Many choose other things in replacement of choosing what makes them happy–be it money, a job, a love life (or lack there of), family (or lack there of)… Many make the choice of one over the other because of what ultimately will satisfy themselves nominally, not emotionally. Many choose what’s easy, because what will make us truly happy is often times the hardest path to go down.

I see myself and others having to find what’s important to them individually. This is not an easy thing to go in search of.  Some will settle and others will try to push for what they really want.

I hope and strive to be the person that doesn’t take the “easy” well trodden path, but instead takes the more difficult terrain with all it’s bumps and ruts. The reason being that in the end, after all that you walk through, you will end up at a mountain top so lovely and fulfilling, that all your past work will not matter. But, that person who chose that well trodden path will forever be walking in search of that greatness they can’t quite ever find…

So, try asking yourself what you are really doing with yourself…? Where do you want to be…? Who do you want to be with…? What will create your greatest happiness…? Don’t settle for ‘okay.’ Love what you are doing, who you are with, and the goals you set for your life…

This is what I try to do every day. Because I want happiness. It’s not always “by the book.” Or what I expect for myself. But, I am slowly finding some answers to those questions. I will never stop striving to find happiness, but I also hope that I will never have to not have happiness in my life either…
