Illusion is a topic I keep bringing up, time and time again. But, it is so relevant to so many things in life. It almost should be my word to life! Everything is an illusion to some extent, nothing is really real… if that makes sense?
A while back, I was visiting New York with my dad (before I moved there this past year). One day on our vacation we happened upon a street that was blocked off. Whenever a street is blocked off in New York City, everyone turns into lookie-loo’s (including myself–OF COURSE!).
So, we walked down it. What else would anyone do?!
(This is beginning to sound like a horror movie or something…)
What we saw, when we walked down said street, is a movie being filmed. A 1960’s themed movie to be exact! They had brought in a slew of old cars and parked them along the street in front of this tiny building. This building was very Mad Men-esque. There were actors dressed the part milling around the building entrance. The whole set probably took up 1/10 of the whole block.
What the film maker had done, was create an ILLUSION that they were in the 1960’s. It might of been a 50 foot wide area, but how would anyone know beyond the scope of that camera?
BAM! There was the 1960s!
This example shows what I keep talking about. How a photo is Photoshopped, make up, fashion, photo shoots, movies, outfits, music, clothing, plays, book covers, a buildings exterior…. All are illusions to what might be or what someone wants them to be. A microcosm to infinity.
Illusion is what life is all about. A beautiful façade to cover up the imperfections and ugliness in life. Nothing is ever what it seems.
This may be good. This may be bad. Depends on how you see things! BUT, one this is for certain: YOU CAN USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
So, use it.
Use it GOOD!
