I’m talking about clothes, makeup, handbags, accessories, etc…. I think that there are certain things that are VERY important to splurge on and other things there is no need to. The things that I think money is well worth being spent on are:
Facial/Skin Care Products: Your face is the first thing that everyone see. It’s is one of the most important things about you, so you need to take care of it.
I don’t have bad skin now, but since I have reached the latter side of my 20’s, I am beginning to see my skin change from when I was in my teens/early 20’s. It’s not quite as forgiving and it has to be babied.
I have very VERY sensitive skin, so it is especially true for me. I cannot use any harsh or scented soaps or lotions. I have been using the Aveda All-Sensitive Skin Line for about 5-6 years now and my skin is at it’s best it has ever been. I was shocked at the difference in my skin when I switched from a cheapy drug store brands to this line after receiving a facial at the Aveda Institute. I am fiercely loyal to this brand and fear ever having to change products.
You don’t have to get this brand–it is what works for me, but may not work for you–but please invest in your facial washes, moisturizer, and SPF. You only have one skin and face, so pamper it!
Shampoo and Conditioners: Maybe because I have very fine, thin hair I am very careful about taking care of my hair. My hair is stronger and looks better whenever I get better quality shampoos and conditioners. I am not as loyal as to the brand so much. Every so often I switch it up.
My feelings on shampoo/conditioners are very similar to my feelings on facial products. Your hair is a big part of your image as a person–so treat it kindly!
Foundation: Your are putting that foundation on your skin, day after day, for extended hours…. think about how those chemicals could be affecting you. Be careful what you wear, invest in something healthy, that also looks good. Someone who has a bad looking foundation can look like an eye sore. Good quality also covers better and lasts longer.
A friend of mine recently introduced me to BB Creams. I really love them because they act as a moisturizer, foundation, and SPF in one. They are not heavy and even your skin tone. I am someone who hates a lot of face makeup on myself. This stuff is perfect! Currently, I do not have a favorite brand. I am still trying some out.
Sunglasses: I am a new convert to buying expensive QUALITY sunglasses. I am still on my very first pair. When I went through Laser Eye Surgery a couple of years ago, I decided to splurge and buy a pair of Ray Bans I had been eyeing. I was working at Bloomingdale’s at the time, so I had a discounts which added to the reason I bought them.
Before this, I was convinced that an expensive pair of sunglasses was just throwing money away. I had always bought cheapies from stores like Target. I was always breaking them and didn’t see the point on spending a lot of money if I was going to break them right away. What I didn’t know is that Ray Bans are so comfortable and they last forever! They don’t break (knock on wood). I have now had mine for about 2 years. They were worth what I paid for them or more! This is an investment well spent!
***Some things you can get by on the cheap are:
Hair spray, mascara, purses, a lot of clothing, wallets, nail polish.
