Upcycling

Modern Vintage

July 27, 2012

I have been a very very busy bee! I bought 9 yards of this wonderful vintage fabric yesterday and had to make something a.s.a.p. for my upcycle store! This was the result (I actually made 2 of the same to sell at the store–I may actually keep one though!):

This skirt is so fun–I just want to twirl in circles!
I feel that I now have enough pieces to launch my upcycle store up. Originally, I was going to keep it at the same Etsy store as my vintage clothing, but I have since decided against that. I feel that they are two separate ideas and should probably be two separate, but similar entities. Who knows, I may change my mind again next week!
Most of the pieces I am creating are vintage inspired, but have some or all elements that are upcycled. All pieces are plus size (as of right now). This skirt waistband stretches from 32″ all the way up to about a 50″ waist. With the full hips, it can fit a wide range of sizes (around 1X-3X).

Upcycled Gumby

July 20, 2012

When I found this Gumby shirt, I knew that I needed to turn it into something fun–the perfect piece to begin an Upcycled project!

I had previously found this scrap fabric yardage (under a yard) at a thrift store, the Gumby shirt was the perfect pairing to this blue and white plaid fabric! What a playful compliment to each other!

I made this Upcycled dress by cutting the armholes, neckline, and hem of the Gumby t-shirt. I pleated the skirt to preference and attached it to the t-shirt. I turned back the hem and zigzag stitched it in place for looks. The inside of the dress is completely clean finished with an over lock machine (except for cut neckline and armholes, which were left for styling purposes).
All photos, chickens, bicycles, and backyard courtesy of my mom. (Dog is my brother’s puppy, Lily.)
