Fall Foliage

December 6, 2012

And they say California doesn’t have a fall–just look at THOSE leaves? If that isn’t fall, than I don’t know what is! Proof is in the pudding, as they say! I want to jump into that sea of yellow beauty and swim around in it’s sunny brightness!

California is very different than most places. Usually you have a green summer and an ugly dark dead fall/winter, but California is the opposite. During the summer everything becomes dry and dead, threatening to burst into brush fire at any little spark. When fall and winter come along, it brings on the rainy season. Almost everything becomes lush, green, and gorgeous. We do have some of the “dead” look from non-native plants, but other than that, California is at its finest in the colder months.

I guess that’s why California is one of those places that so many people yearn to come to. It’s like nowhere else on earth!

Did you notice how I’m not wearing a jacket and it’s DECEMBER?

Boo yah!

Nanner-Nanner!

(I better knock on some wood, because next thing you know we’ll have some freak snow storm! Ahh!)

Half Moon Bay

July 14, 2012

Today I took a trip with my grandmother to Half Moon Bay. It is a small coastal area that is famous for their pumpkins, Christmas trees, and huge waves called Mavericks.

To answer your first thoughts–No, we didn’t go to any beaches, collect shells along the shore, or walk the pier… or any number of beach town tourist junk.

We got brunch at a local diner and then headed to the house that has been in my family since the 1960’s. It’s a little house that hasn’t been updated much since that time. I have visited it off and on throughout my childhood and less frequently in my adulthood.

Each time I visit it as I get older, I start to get past the smell of mildew and see the house and its contents for it’s true charm. Over the years it has slowly gone from seeming ‘old’ to being cool retro, that intrigues me as I see it with different eyes.

Little details from your long ago memories and view point can change in an instance. You question your whole opinion from yourself as a child. You grow and develop to come into your own. It’s no longer clouded with misinformation and lack of education.

Things that are old become new. Even though you’ve seen them a hundred or thousand times before, years can change your sight.

Appreciation for life, what you have been given, and for the treasures that dot your life that you have yet to discover.
