Life According to Anne (of Green Gables)

August 6, 2012

“…people laugh at me because I use big words.
But if you have big ideas
you have to use big words to express them,
haven’t you?”

The story of Anne of Green Gables has always been a favorite for me. I remember watching the mini-series as a little girl and eventually going on to read all of the series.

Anne Shirley is a strong woman for her day and today. She may be a character, but if more women had half of the gumption she did, we would have one successful sex.

“…it’s delightful to have ambitions.
I’m so glad I have such a lot.
And there never seems to be any end to them–
that’s the best of it.
Just as soon as you attain to one ambition
you see another one glittering higher up still.
It does make life so interesting.”

I like to think that I have a little bit of Anne in me.

Words that I would use to describe Anne Shirley, are: Sassy, Stubborn, Resourceful, Free Thinking, Head Strong, Loyal. A lot of the same words I strive to be used to describe myself.

“It’s not what the world holds for you.
It’s what you bring to it.”

Road Trip Recovery

August 5, 2012

Just starting out, heading home,  in Utah still.

I feel dead. Literally.

The ride back home from a road trip is always the hardest.  We were so exhausted from waking up early every day, plus the traveling itself is exhausting.

Today is the day after we made it back home from our trip from California to Utah. I feel like I was beat up and dragged behind a car for miles and hung over all at the same time.

In Wendover, NV. The town straddles the Utah/Nevada state border.
A casino in Wendover, NV.

On the trip TO Utah we made the whole 12/13 hour drive in one day. On the way back that was not so easy. We ended up stopping in Reno, Nevada, which is about 5 hours away from home.

We stayed in Circus Circus — which I would NOT recommend anyone staying at! They charge for all kinds of extras, the rooms are dirty and run down, and it’s Trash-ville, USA.

View from our Circus Circus Hotel Room.

While in Utah and one our way home in Sacramento, CA, I did a lot of thrifting. I am hoping to have enough energy tomorrow to put up some new items in The Shop. Thrift Shops definitely reflect the culture and people of an area. Very interesting to see.

Back to reality tomorrow!
