Weekend Doings: Almost Summer

June 2, 2012

My mom flew in yesterday for a visit from California. She comes to see me every couple of months because she misses me and loves New York too much (like me!). She has been coming here so much over the years, we tend to stay away from the typical tourist sites.

Today was no different! We headed to Hell’s Kitchen for a neighborhood street sale. It was basically the equivalent of a neighborhood yard sale/garage sale, except in the street because no one has front yards or garages in New York City.

(Yes, that is me in the center.)

The street sale was fun, but nothing really caught my eye enough to buy. Luckily, there weren’t really any dealers at this sale.

Dealers are very annoying and can basically be described as professional antique and collectible sellers who know what they have and over price their items to the max. They usually don’t like to negotiate and act very snooty.

I wore my “Summer Jaunty Scarf” from the DIY I shared yesterday.  I wore comfortable clothes today, because I knew we would be doing a lot of walking.  My red and white pin striped scarf added a nice pop of color to my outfit of black leggings, white customized t-shirt, and red flip flops.

It was so sunny, even though it was a nice breezy day. I used my umbrella for shade as we walked around the sunny city. I don’t really like getting tan and too much sun is draining on me.  The umbrella was functional and ended up adding a nice complement to why outfit!

It was a relaxing day. We walked around the city for and went to Central Park. We ended the day with some John’s Pizza for dinner (one of our all time favorites!). Then headed to my roof to watch the sunset.

Thanks to my mom for the pics!

Doppelganger

May 31, 2012

Merriam-Websters’ Dictionary defines ‘doppelganger‘ as “someone who looks like someone else.”

For kicks I decided to find some famous (fashion wise) doppelgangers for my shop items at The Curvy Elle Shop! What I mean by this is: I found fashion apparel items that are currently being sold at retailers that look similar to my items I am selling.

I wanted to prove to those girls out there that think they can never look the part, afford, or fit in designer brands, that you can still look the part at any size or any price point!

The dress on the left is the “Maggie” dress by Reiss, which retails for $425 and is only available for sizes 0-10. My dress is a Vintage Plus Size Cream Colored Dress that I am currently selling for $26.00.

The jacket on the left is the Colton Drape Lapel Jacket” by Alice + Olivia which retails for $795 and is available in sizes XS-L. My version is a Plus Size Vintage Over-Sized Turquoise Open Front Dolmen Sleeve Blazer which I am selling for $24.00.

This is a plaid/gingham skirt called “Taos Plaid Maxi Skirt” by Michael Kors. It retails for $2,995 and is available in sizes 2-12. The skirt that I am selling is a Plus Size Vintage Plaid Pleated Midi Skirt is a Size 14 and I am selling it for $19.00.

This Lanvin “Boucle Tweed Jacket” retails for $4,425 and is available in sizes 2-10.  My version is a Plus Size Vintage White Bouclé Open Front Jacket  in Size 16 that I am selling for a mere $24.00.
