Laurel in Wonderland

May 17, 2012

For a while I had been thinking about what kind of post I wanted to write with this photo shoot. I was saving this great idea I had to write about for tonight….BUT, then today happened… or life happened.

It was one of those New York days like I talked about in my previous post about life here.  I used the “shit on” metaphor in comparison to life in New York.  Today was one of those types of days. One minute I’m merrily living my life, doing my thing; the next I’m feeling a big wet plop on my face from the sky–and it’s one of those great big runny mess all over my face kinds. (I mean completely metaphorically speaking, of course.) On the plus side, you get 10 years good luck after you pooped on by a bird–right? I don’t know what to think about today, and I don’t want to go into detail, but it was one of my tougher times.

I’m trying to stay strong, because there were a few really, really good things that happened today too. One being–I had my first purchase at The Curvy Elle Shop! I’m so excited and have so many awesome ideas for my shop and blog!

Luckily, I love the colors in these photos. And the composition. And the clothes. Looking at them makes my day a little better! The Calla-lilies were in bloom and added a nice touch.

This photo shoot keeps making me think of Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz combined. Giant flowers, tiny houses to explore,  and a rainbow stepping stones to follow rather than a “yellow brick road.”

Like Dorothy and Alice, I am on a journey. Trying to find my way home…. Trying to find the hidden purpose.

The saying goes, “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  I think I got some lemons today and it’s time to make some lemonade!

Spring Fever (Literally)

May 13, 2012

Spring was in full force this weekend in New York. There is always a different air about the city when it first starts to warm up. Everyone is happy and hopeful and enjoying the warm sunshine. and the humidity hasn’t become killer yet….

The humidity wasn’t bad, but I could say differently when it came to allergens flying around. When I wasn’t wanting to cut off my nose because I felt like the pollen level was killing me, I had a very nice weekend. I may have spent all of Sunday in bed, moaning in misery, but Saturday was really nice.

My friend came downtown and we did our usual all day walking around the city. We found a little street sale/rummage sale on a small street off of Bleeker.  I found some reasonably priced things for sale. I even bought a 1960’s vintage handbag at one stall for my shop!

It being Mother’s Day today, I wish I could have been home (as in back home in California) today. My family was having a brunch/breakfast with Linguiça and Portuguese Sweet Bread.  It is always times like these that make me sad to be so far from home. You can’t always have it your way. I guess you have to sacrifice some things to follow your big dreams!
