New York

New Shop Item + Sunday Funday

June 3, 2012

In previous posts I have discussed how New York is full of the really ugly and the really beautiful, the shit with the “creme de la creme” (here and here). Today was another prime example. You have this tiny little pocket of beauty which  is this “Golden Swan Garden” surrounded by dirt, grime, and homelessness.

But, you know what? I guess that’s life! When is something completely pure and wonderful? There is always another side to the coin. That is why there is always unrest and dissatisfaction in the world. That is why we keep growing and changing and advancing.

I am always looking for something new and more that makes me happy. For right now, this great summer shirt I found recently makes me happy! I feel as if I glow as I walk down the street.

It’s the little things that add up to make one big thing; little happinesses build up to make a great big happiness inside. It’s what makes life worth living for!

Peels NYC in the Bowery – Yum!

Enjoy what you have and have what you enjoy!

“Honk!”

Life is too short–live it to the fullest. No regrets! Cliche or not–these are the truth!

June 2, 2012

My mom flew in yesterday for a visit from California. She comes to see me every couple of months because she misses me and loves New York too much (like me!). She has been coming here so much over the years, we tend to stay away from the typical tourist sites.

Today was no different! We headed to Hell’s Kitchen for a neighborhood street sale. It was basically the equivalent of a neighborhood yard sale/garage sale, except in the street because no one has front yards or garages in New York City.

(Yes, that is me in the center.)

The street sale was fun, but nothing really caught my eye enough to buy. Luckily, there weren’t really any dealers at this sale.

Dealers are very annoying and can basically be described as professional antique and collectible sellers who know what they have and over price their items to the max. They usually don’t like to negotiate and act very snooty.

I wore my “Summer Jaunty Scarf” from the DIY I shared yesterday.  I wore comfortable clothes today, because I knew we would be doing a lot of walking.  My red and white pin striped scarf added a nice pop of color to my outfit of black leggings, white customized t-shirt, and red flip flops.

It was so sunny, even though it was a nice breezy day. I used my umbrella for shade as we walked around the sunny city. I don’t really like getting tan and too much sun is draining on me.  The umbrella was functional and ended up adding a nice complement to why outfit!

It was a relaxing day. We walked around the city for and went to Central Park. We ended the day with some John’s Pizza for dinner (one of our all time favorites!). Then headed to my roof to watch the sunset.

Thanks to my mom for the pics!
