Healthy Living Update: Week 1

I have to admit, this week hasn’t been all that bad! Once the initial couple of days of detoxing off of sweets I was ‘okay.’ Seeing sweets didn’t turn me on anymore. The only hard time I had was yesterday when I was at a mall and everyone was walking around eating Sees chocolates and smelling Mrs. Fields Cookies baking.

I definitely have a super weakness for those two. I have fond memories circled around those two things. When I was growing up my mom and I would always make homemade chocolate chip cookies and snack on the dough. There is something comforting about doing this and eating the cookies that I have a hard time saying ‘no’ to. The same with Sees chocolates, I grew up eating them with my family and getting them as gifts for every holiday.

I am still drinking (diet) soda, but once I am resettled back in California I plan on getting it out of my diet for the most part. Besides being very good with the sweets, I have also been very good about staying away from bread. It isn’t completely out of my diet, and probably never will, but I have cut it mainly out.

Tomorrow I fly back to New York to finish packing up my room. Traveling is my hardest when it comes to eating bad things. Sitting on a plane for hours makes me want to snack like crazy. I have to keep telling myself, “I think I can, I think I can!”

This picture is in honor of this weeks accomplishments and to remind me of what I need to keep up. STOP, Look, and Listen=Stop before I eat something, Look at what I am stuffing in my body, and Listen to the rational/educated part of my brain that will tell me if what I am eating is a good life choice!

Plus Size Healthy Living (Part II)

Workout Clothes Ready!

I previously posted about being plus size and living a healthy life style. I wanted to touch on this subject again–and I will becoming back to it regularly in the future.

I haven’t really gone into specifics about what is going on in my life currently. But, basically I am moving back to the Left Coast from New York City in July and am working on my “own thang.”

Living in California, you do not have the luxury of getting your exercise from walking everywhere. I have a car and I drive almost everywhere. This means I lose a lot of my daily exercise and have to compensate in some form.

Added to this, it would be nice to lose a little of my extra weight and make life easier to get around. It’s all about making life physically, mentally, and emotionally better! Losing weight for me is NOT about being “skinny.”  It’s about living longer and being comfortable in my body.

Even if I lose weight I will still be “Plus Size.” In my adult/teen life I have always been plus size. I have big hips, big butt, and big thighs. They’re always going to be that way, but sometimes they’re a little bigger and sometimes they’re a little smaller.

So, the question I had to ask myself is–“what to do about this?” My number 1 answer is JOIN A GYM. I always have a gym membership, sometimes I visit more, sometimes less. I like to have the gym option always open to me. I don’t go everyday. Sometimes I go to the park and workout when it’s nice out.

The number 2 thing I need to do is adjust my food lifestyle. Previously, I have put myself on self made diets (that have been very successful). I try to cut out most sugars, sweets, sodas, and bread. Sweets are always my downfall and sodas can act as a crutch. I’m not saying that these are going to be completely cut out of my life, but mainly they have to be for me to keep my healthy lifestyle going. I will usually save my sweets intake for special occasions such as birthdays or holidays. It’s about moderation–which I need to work on big time!

I don’t have any health issues (that I know of), so what I am doing works for me. It may not be for everyone, so don’t take what I say as gospel. Get advice if you need to. Sometimes finding the right healthy lifestyle takes trial and error. If you have any dietary issues, these have to be considered as well. For instance, I am allergic to soy. This means I can’t eat a lot of it without getting migraines and sick. This leaves out a lot of protein shakes, fake meats, and tofu.

I am currently, just beginning my new regime and will not go full force until I am moved completely. I want to hold myself accountable to this lifestyle, so I am planning on trying to write regularly (hopefully once a week) about my journey–the good, the bad and the ugly!
