My grandfather was color blind–not the kind where everything was black and white. The kind where some colors (reds, yellow, greens, etc.) look more brown.  He would always paint things crazy colors and he would think that they looked great, but everyone would see it and laugh because it would be bright green or red instead of the neutral color it should have been. On stop lights all the colors looked the same, so he had to pay attention to the location of the light when driving.

My grandmother tells a story about them babysitting a little girl who my grandfather was helping color in a coloring book. He’s coloring away and my grandmother goes over to see what he’s doing.  Instead of having a cowboy with peach toned skin, the cowboy had green skin.

Take this house, it is my grandparents “vacation” home in Half Moon Bay. My grandfather painted it this bright  shade of yellow years ago–and it has actually faded from what it was. He probably thought it looked like a tan or light brown– in actuality it is almost neon yellow. This may hurt the eyes, but it makes for a good photo shoot back drop!
