My mom is still here visiting me and we decided to take an overnight trip to Boston and Concord, Massachusetts. For YEARS I have wanted to visit Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House Museum. I love Little Women–the book, the movies, the history… SO, we finally bit the bullet and did it!
We woke up at 5 AM to get ready to catch a bus at 6:40am for a 4 hour bus ride into Boston. After that, we took Boston’s equivalent of a “subway” (which is nothing compared to the New York subway–of course) to a transfer station. We had to wait an hour and a half to catch a commuter train out to Concord.
When we finally made it to Concord, we found our way (on foot) to the Historical Concord Colonial Inn–which is a REALLY old hotel that is really cute!

I love the exposed beams in the hotel room and the room is so old that the floor is slanted! Hopefully we won’t be woken up tonight by any old ghosts haunting this place…. Who know how many people have passed through this place over the multiple centuries it has been around!
Once we dropped off our bag, we headed out to Orchard House. We had a guided tour and then bought way too many souvenirs in the gift shop! Sometimes you just gotta be the annoying tourist!
I don’t have a happy look on my face, but really I am! |

The only problem with that theoretical idea is that the road to Walden Pond is a highway, and was not really made for pedestrians. We made it half way there and had to turn around because we couldn’t really walk any farther without the risk of being hit by a whizzing car. FAIL! Oh, well… it probably would have been a let down anyway!
Even without Walden’s Pond, it was a good trip! I’m happy to be able to say that I made it to Orchard House! One last thing to check off my “bucket list” (if I had one, that is!). Onto my next dream literary trip/visit! It is to visit Prince Edward Island to see the Anne of Green Gables House! Who knows when or if that will happen, for now I’ll keep dreaming!
Tomorrow, on to Boston and finally home (New York, that is).
